Details from NWS storm survey: About 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning, May 31st, a weak tornado touched down in Preston County just west of Cranesville (about 9 miles north of Terra Alta). It traveled east for about a mile and a half. The maximum width of damage was about 80 yards, and the maximum estimated winds were about 80 mph. This makes this tornado an EF-0 on the enhanced Fujita scale. The tornado toppled or snapped many trees along its path. Two homes suffered damage. The wall of a garage was completely blown out and another wall was buckled. A double-wide home was pushed almost a foot off of its foundation. Some outbuildings were also damaged from both the wind and flying debris. Several windows were destroyed and there was one minor injury due to flying glass. There were two sightings of a funnel cloud in the vicinity.
